# How Danielle honors her father

My name is Danielle and I am a care coordinator at Synapticure. After graduating from social work school, my dad was officially diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis).

Over the course of his disease, our family went through many ups and downs trying to navigate a healthcare system that often felt impossible. The resulting frustration motivated me to put on my "social work hat" when thinking about my dad's care. While working as a care consultant, support group facilitator, and student supervisor at a NYC non-profit devoted to dementia patients, I cultivated many skills that directly translated to my life as the daughter of an ALS patient. Whether it was helping to activate his long-term care insurance, finding a home health aide, or advocating for better health care, my professional experiences allowed me to help my parents access the care and resources they needed to navigate ALS.

I honor my dad through my work at Synapticure every day, and I am more motivated than ever to ensure that other patients and caregivers feel supported while in the trenches of ALS, where it is so easy to feel lost and alone.
